Decisive wins locked in ahead of MSE netball season break

Round 12 of the Mid South East Netball Association featured several one sided games, while the match of the round also ended in a decisive victory.


Third placed Tantanoola hosted second spot Glencoe, in what was billed as a tough battle, however the Murphies claimed the honours 41-26.


Reigning premiers Kalangadoo also had little trouble accounting for Hatherleigh, winning 74-33, while Mount Burr ran over the top of Nangwarry 83-12.


The Roosters also dealt out a solid defeat to the Hawks at the seaside, with Robe taking the win 77-45.


Tantanoola v Glencoe


Tantanoola hosted Glencoe in a highly anticipated match between second and third position on the ladder.


The absence of key players Alice Tentye and Bella Poulish added intrigue to the encounter.


Glencoe opened the scoring with Jenna Paproth and Chantelle Cocks showcasing their formidable partnership under the ring.


However, Tantanoola’s defence, led by Kate Bromley and Keryl Ousey standing in for Bella Poulish, forced Glencoe to work hard to maintain their early advantage.


Coming off a bye, Tantanoola showed strong transition play and effective delivery into the goal circle.


Despite this, they struggled with uncharacteristic missed shots, allowing Glencoe to narrowly lead 7-6 after a low-scoring first quarter.


The second quarter featured impressive defensive rebounds from Caitlin Hentschke and Ousey, providing their teams with numerous scoring opportunities.


Glencoe intensified their game, demonstrating speed and precision through the mid-court and pressuring Tantanoola into tactical adjustments.


Molly Cushion and Casey Walker’s positional changes aimed to bolster Tantanoola’s drive and pressure through the centrecourt, while Glencoe remained steadfast.


Sarah Edwards displayed her defensive prowess with multiple interceptions and tight marking, contributing to Glencoe’s 18-14 lead at halftime.


Seeking a creative spark in the third quarter, Tantanoola introduced Shelby Ryan at GA, who combined effectively with Gould, showcasing excellent long-range passes into the goal circle.


Glencoe’s Mekayla Maney, stepping in for Alice Tentye, impressed with crucial turnovers at WD, signalling potential in senior ranks.


The quarter evolved into a defensive battle, marked by missed shots from both sides.


Ousey’s imposing height and combination with Bromley forced Paproth and Cocks to work hard to find shooting positions for Glencoe.


At the other end, relentless physical pressure from Caitlin Hentschke made it difficult for the Tigers’ goalies.


Tantanoola persisted with strategic changes, moving Ryan to GS and reintroducing Jami Walker at GA.


However, unforced errors through the mid-court hindered Tantanoola, allowing Glencoe to extend their lead to eight heading into the final quarter.


In the fourth Gould returned to the shooting position for Tantanoola, with Walker and Ryan back on at WA, while Glencoe maintained their lineup.


Sarah Edwards continued to dominate defensively, intercepting several passes.


Despite Tantanoola’s efforts to disrupt Glencoe’s momentum with further changes in the shooting end, Glencoe remained resilient.


Ultimately, it was a defensive affair with both teams’ shooters missing more shots than usual.


Glencoe capitalised on this, extending their lead by seven in the final quarter to secure a convincing 41-26 victory.


Glencoe’s best players were Caitlin Hentschke and Mekayla Maney, while for Tantanoola it was Keryl Ousey and Kate Bromley.


Hatherleigh v Kalangadoo


Hatherleigh hosted the Magpies in warm sunny conditions, with the home side winng the first centre pass, but the visitors were quick to turn it over and score.


The game was played at a very fast pace which saw Kalangadoo transition down court and score extremely quickly, with the Pies taking an eight goal lead into the first break.


The sides retained their line up in the second quarter, as Kalangadoo pushed on further and extend their lead.


Hatherleigh applied good defensive pressure across the court, however the combination of Ebony McDiarmid and Abbey Duncan seemed to be unstoppable.


The Eagles were able to get their hands to a few turnovers, making the most of the opportunities to convert.


Kalangadoo’s Jane Auld provided her team with speed and plenty of drive onto the circle’s edge which allowed her easy access to feed Duncan and McDiarmid.


The Pies held a comfortable 40-20 lead at the main break.


The Eagles used the break to make many changes, rolling the dice to shuffle the majority of players on the court, while Kalangadoo remained unchanged.


The changes seemed to help the hosts as Lara MacGregor matched up well on Duncan.


The Pies applied heavy defensive pressure to extend their lead an were fast to chase down anything, with their defence working overtime.


Hatherleigh had some great passages of play from end to end and were able to find Harris and Redden to convert, but it was not easy with the height of Lara Munro who forced the home side to be patient when they were able to convert.


Kalangadoo ramped up the pressure and took a 29-goal lead going into the final break.


In the final quarter there was a switch for the Pies in the mid court, and Eagles youngster Niah Faulkner also took the court.


Kalangadoo stayed well in control and kept ticking over the scoreboard.


The home side battled but the visitors were far too strong, coming away with 74-33 win.


Bree Harris and Erin Watson were named best players for Hatherleigh, with Jane Auld and Lara Munro taking the honours for Kalangadoo.


Mount Burr v Nangwarry


The Mozzies hosted the Saints, with Madi Haggett (GA) opening proceedings to score the first goal in her 50th senior game for Mount Burr.


Megan Thiele (GD) and Olivia Dean (GK) worked intensely getting hands over balls and rebounding, allowing Mount Burr to score from turnovers through accurate shooting from Haggett.


Sheridan Sakkers (GA) created opportunities for Nangwarry in the goal circle, however Mount Burr had a 16 goal lead at the quarter break.


The Burr made some passing errors allowing Nangwarry to gain possession through Kayla Gray (GK), however, centre court pressure from the Mozzies limited their ability to score.


Haggett and Danika Shepherd (GS) continued to combine well in the goal circle with accurate feeding from Ella Easterby (WA) and Laura Schultz (C).


Gemma Glynn (GD) drove strongly out of defence but defensive pressure from Mount Burr limited the transition into the goal circle for Nangwarry.


Gray continued to rebound well, creating greater scoring opportunities for Nangwarry with Lacey Neale converting their only goal for the quarter.


Nangwarry’s Maddi Stephens worked hard for her side through the centre.


At half time Mount Burr had extended their lead to 29 goals.


Gray moved to GS for Nangwarry and was excited to score their first goal.


Haggett continued to be the focal point in the Mount Burr goal circle, rebounding and converting well alongside Shepherd.


The Burr’s Schultz worked hard driving to the circle edge, also causing turnovers in the mid court.


Thiele and Dean worked well defensively with youngster Abbey Falting at WD, making it difficult for Nangwarry to move the ball into the attack line.


Nangwarry doubled their score in the third quarter despite the Mozzies extending their lead with the score 60-6.


Mount Burr young gun Macy Burns took to the court at WD, while the Saints made changes to try and stem the flow of the Mozzies’ scoring rate.


Shepherd and Haggett continued to combine well, creating space for Schultz and Easterby to feed goalies, with shots close to the ring.


The changes for Nangwarry allowed them to get to circle edge, but Thiele and Dean continued to cause turnovers, limiting scoring opportunities.


Easterby’s speed to circle edge allowed for smooth transition into the goalies.


Nangwarry continued to work hard with Sakkers at GK getting some hands to balls.


Mount Burr ran away convincing winners, with the final score 83-12.


Mount Burr’s best players were Madison Haggett and Megan Thiele, while for Nangwarry it was Kayla Gray and Sheridan Sakkers.


Robe v Kongorong


The Roosters dealt out a solid defeat to the Hawks at the seaside, with Robe taking the win 77-45.


Robe made an impressive start with strategic court patience and intensive one on one pressure, forcing errors from Kongorong.


Emillie Gould and Alannah Jennings demonstrated great communication, particularly in the goal circle.


The team maintained a high conversion rate, thanks to the accurate shooting of Sarah Laurie and Demi Carter.


The Roosters made strong drives through the mid-court, ensuring few mistakes over the course of the game and finishing with a 32-goal win.


Robe’s best players were Sarah Laurie, Emillie Gould, with Emily Lightbody and Jasmin McKinnon best for Kongorong.
