Defending champions

IN 2024, Stacey Edwards and her little mate, Napoleon, became the inaugural National Pony Racing Championships title holders, taking on the country’s best to win the crown at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.

In 2025, the pair will head to Queensland to defend their title, after taking out the South Australian qualifying round at Murray Bridge.

Napoleon shot out of the starting gate “a little bit too quick” according to Edwards, but the little pocket rocket still managed to blitz the field by seven lengths.

“He was getting a bit tired at the end, but he just does not know how to give up,” she said.

The win sees the pair heading to the Gold Coast Turf Club for the national final as reigning champions, but Edwards is quiet and modest about her champion status.

“I’m not really sure what to think about it at the moment … I guess it’s pretty cool,” she said.
