South Gambier headed to Vansittart Park on Saturday to take on the North Gambier Tigers, with the Tigers coming out hot in the opening term and stunning the Dees.
North kicked the opening three goals in the game while the Dees only came up with two minor scores, with the home side holding a 19 point lead at the first break.
South responded well in the second term and completely shut down the Tigers, holding North to three points while they jumped into the lead with a five goal quarter.
At the major break the Dees had climbed back into the game and held a 12 point lead.
After a goalless second quarter the Tigers made up for their mistakes in the third period, kicking six goals.
The Dees’ lead soon disappeared as they only got a single goal on the board.
Heading into the final term the Tigers had regained the lead as the Dees now trailed by 17 points.
After a back and forth game with many lead changes the Dees were able to find another level in the final quarter as they held North to just one point.
South took advantage of the massive opportunity and slotted five goals to seal the comeback victory on enemy soil.
South Gambier’s Mitchell Sims once again had a massive game for the Dees, kicking four goals in the win.
South Gambier defeated North Gambier 11.11 (77) to 9.8 (62).
East Gambier v Casterton Sandford
The Cats travelled to the Mount on Saturday and took on the Doggies at the Kennel.
East started strong to begin the game and kicked the opening three goals of the game.
Casterton, on the other hand, got off on the wrong foot as they finished the quarter with four minor scores and at the first break the Doggies held a 14 point lead.
The Cats finally got the ball rolling in the second term as they got two goals on the board to help get them back into the game.
However, the Doggies kept their distance as they kicked a single goal which took them into the major break with a nine point lead.
The Cats’ lifted the intensity in the third term as they began to slow down East.
Casterton kicked four goals while the Doggies only managed one which helped give the Cats a 15 point lead heading into the final term.
The Cats’ defence stood strong for another quarter as East only scored a single goal in the quarter which did not help them fight back for the win as the Cats kicked two goals to end the game.
Casterton’s Hamish Mccrae had a standout performance for the Cats, kicking two goals in the win.
Casterton Sandford defeated East Gambier 8.16 (64) to 6.6 (42).
Millicent v West Gambier
The Saints took care of business on Saturday as they faced the travelling West Gambier Roos.
The Saints started well while the Roos struggled in the opening quarter, with Millicent slotting two goals to kick off the game while the Roos struggled to get going with only one minor score.
After the opening term the Saints held a 12 point lead.
In the second term the struggles continued for the Roos as they remained goalless for another quarter, while Millicent continued to add to their lead by putting three more goals on the board.
At the major break the Saints held a comfortable 33 point lead.
In the third term the Roos finally got a major score on the board, but the single goal was not enough to put a dent into the Saints’ lead as they kicked another three goals.
Heading into the final quarter the Saints had the game well in their hands with a 45 point lead.
In the final term the Roos were able to get another goal on the board.
However, it was not enough in the long run as the Saints managed to kick another two majors to help seal the victory.
Millicent’s Shanks brothers Billy and Kalan both had big games for the Saints in the team’s 11th win of the season.
Millicent defeated West Gambier 10.11 (71) to 2.6 (18).
