Demons look to make Cats pay at Island Park for early round upset victory

Casterton Sandford v South Gambier

South Gambier will head across to Casterton on Saturday to face the Cats and seek redemption, after the Victorians got the upset win at Blue Lake Sports Park last time they met.

In the most recent game the weather played a big part as it levelled the playing field.

Back in Round 5 the Dees got the job done in Casterton despite the late push from the Cats in the second half.

The Dees will be looking for payback and will need to get the win this week if they want to keep their spot in second to secure the double chance opportunity come finals.

After last week’s loss, the Cats can no longer make finals with two games left to play.

With not a lot to play for this may lead to a competitive match, as the Cats have nothing to lose whereas the Dees have plenty.

The Cats will be looking for another upset to hurt South’s chances of finishing in the top two this weekend.

East Gambier v West Gambier

West Gambier will take on the Doggies at the Kennel on Saturday.

Last time these sides played it was very close and competitive with the wet weather once again causing havoc across the league that round.

The Doggies put up a good fight and only lost by 18 points.

While the top four teams are locked in for finals, their exact positions are still to be determined with the second place spot up for grabs for West, North and South.

The next two weeks are must wins for these teams as they all look to get the double chance opportunity.

For the Doggies they will continue to play hard as they again fight for their first win of the season with this week likely being their last shot at victory as they play the Saints next round.

As the Roos and Tigers are currently tied on points and wins, this game for the Roos is a good opportunity to move up on the ladder as the Tigers take on the Saints.

Millicent v North Gambier

The Tigers will head to Millicent on Saturday to face the Saints at McLaughlin Park.

Despite Millicent winning in the two meetings these sides have had, both have been very competitive with the first contest only decided by a point with the second 23 points after a late fourth quarter push from the Tigers.

If the Tigers want to win they will need to play like they did in that fourth quarter as they held the Saints to only three points.

The Tigers are coming off a big win over the Doggies whereas the Saints are coming off a hard fought win over the Dees.

As this game is played in Millicent it will add to the difficulty for the Tigers as the Saints are undefeated at home, however the confidence to win will be there as the one point battle back in Round 5 took place in Millicent.

The Saints have the top spot locked up but the stakes are high for the Tigers in this game if they want the second place spot as they currently sit third on the ladder and one game behind second placed South.
