Demons prevail in tight Hawks outing

Port Macdonnell v Kongorong

Port MacDonnell hosted their neighbours the Hawks in what is always a fun, friendly rivalry round.

The first quarter was a close one – all goalies starting off nervously with a few misses early, before settling in and getting some scores on the board.

Megan Hein and Kori Collins in the goal circle were working well together for the Demons, while down the other end it was Tilah Buckingham doing the majority of shooting for the Hawks as Port MacDonell captain and Goal Defence Alana Berkefeld kept Hawks Goal Attack Evie Sealey relatively under control.

Port MacDonnell held a slender lead 11-9 at quarter time.

The second quarter was again a tight one.

Tilah Buckingham’s height was proving troublesome for the Demons Alysha Coon, she had a strong quarter, shooting 11, with just one miss.

Berkefeld continued her dominance – creating many turnovers for the Demons.

Liza Mutch at Centre and Shannon Scheidl at Wing Attack for Port Mac provided good drive into attack and while Riley Buckingham and fill-in Emilia Kerr were working hard in defence for the Hawks, Hein and Collins were dominant in goals for the Demons.

Port Mac were having a hard time pulling away however – and only held a three goal lead at half-time 25-22.

The third quarter saw a few changes for the Demons, the experience Michelle Moore came on into Centre and had a great tussle with Ebony Lawson who was having a good game for the Hawks.

The Demons also switched Coon and Berkefeld.

Coon driving well down the court at Goal Defence and Berkefeld putting the pressure on T. Buckingham.

Megan Hein had a strong quarter – shooting 10.

Port MacDonnell managed to stretch their lead out – up 41-34 at three quarter time.

The Hawks switched defenders Riley Buckingham and Emilia Kerr in the last quarter, Port MacDonell made no further changes.

R. Buckingham did some nice work at Goal Keeper and created a few turnovers for her team.

Collins had a strong quarter at Goal Attack for the Demons with accurate shooting – well supported by Hein who was having a great game at Goal Shooter.

T. Buckingham and Sealey in goals for the Hawks continued to work hard but Berkefeld and Coon slowly gained the upper hand.

Port MacDonnell ran out winners, however Kongorong were hard to shake and put in a strong overall performance with the final score 55-46.

Hatherleigh v Glencoe

Glencoe started well with quick transition, while the goalies of Chantelle Cocks and Jenna Paproth were finding space and capitalising on Hatherleigh’s early mistakes.

Hatherleigh minimised mistakes and the defence combination of Maddie Redman and Elly Redden were stepping up to get hands to many balls, allowing Hatherleigh to work back into the contest in the second half of the quarter which had the scene set for a hard and fast physical game with Glencoe being up by three at quarter time.

The second quarter was highly contested with midcourt players of Erin Watson and Rosie Nettle for Hatherleigh and Donna Jaeschchke and Alice Tentye for Glencoe displaying expertise in feeding their respective goalies.

Lara MacGregor was making Tentye work for every ball and managed to get a few crucial turns for Hatherleigh, having only two goals separating the sides at half time.

Glencoe remained unchanged however Hatherleigh made a change in their goal circle bringing Abby Wight on and the scores were level halfway through the third before Glencoe took control with strong teamwork and accurate shooting from Paproth to go into the last 8 up.

Hatherleigh made another change in their defence end putting MacGregor in the circle with Redman where they defended strong and created turns but with Glencoe’s physicality Hatherleigh could not convert their opportunities with many errors throughout the court while Glencoe steamed ahead, finishing strongly to take out the game easily in the end 34-53.

Robe v Kalangadoo

Robe started the match strong and through a high level of defensive pressure were able to quickly unsettle Kalangadoo’s attack line and force some early wayward passes.

Robe’s Goal Shooter Demi Carter became a focal point in attack and converted accurately and strongly for her team to give Robe the upper hand on the scoreboard, early in the quarter.

Kalangadoo’s circle defence of Lauren Kain and Lara Munro were able to take some timely intercepts to peg back the margin back, to take a one goal advantage at quarter time.

The second quarter saw Kalangadoo’s defence restrict Robe’s scoring opportunities.

Kalangadoo’s Chloe Peacock and Robe’s Lucy Perkins had a tight speedy contest with Peacock making Perkins’ earn every possession.

Robe’s Goal Defence Emma Grant worked tirelessly to curb Kalangadoo’s Abbey Duncan’s impact in attack, with some tight contests.

Annie Regnier ran hard for Robe, finding space and creating some nice passages of play.

Kalangadoo extended their lead going into the main break with a 12 goal advantage.

At the main break Robe brought Tori Gluyas onto goal attack and moved Halle Carter into Wing Defence.

Kalangadoo also took the opportunity to make some changes, switching Peacock and Jane Auld on the wings, which saw Auld make a mark on the game, creating turnovers through the mid court.

Her efforts were rewarded with some patient netball in attack.

Lara Munro continued to have an impact on the game, creating turnovers and rebounding strongly for Kalangadoo to restrict Robe to six goals for the quarter.

Kalangadoo went into three quarter time 55 to Robe 27.

During the final quarter Kalangadoo were able to build on the momentum of the third quarter with goalies Duncan and Ebony McDiarmid finding space and converting accurately.

At the other end of the court the defensive pressure and timely intercepts were making it hard for the Robe goalies to get many opportunities, scoring seven goals for the quarter.

Kalangadoo finished the game strong defeating Robe 75 goals to 38.

Tantanoola v Mount Burr

Emma Gould, playing in her 100th A Grade for the Tigers, came out firing, scoring the first goal of the game off her team’s centre pass.

Mount Burr’s intensity and desire for the ball was evident, chasing up any loose balls.

Although Tantanoola had a majority of the play, they let the Burr back into the game with many unforced errors.

The defensive circle pressure from Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe made Mount Burr goalies work hard for every goal, with interceptions and strong rebounds.

The accuracy of Ebony Clarke kept Mount Burr in the game.

The quarter finished with the Tigers holding a one goal lead.

Both teams remained unchanged in the second quarter.

The match became more physical and there were many highlights from both sides.

Rowe took an impressive intercept and her combination with Bromley was creating intense pressure.

Ebony Clark continued to dominate with accuracy and very good body positioning.

Laura Schultz for Mount Burr was making her presence felt with speed through the centre and creative passing into her goalies.

Both teams worked overtime to gain a lead but the score margin did not change from the first quarter.

The third quarter saw changes for Tantanoola with Keryl Ousey and Gould switching positions which had an immediate impact on the game.

Gould took control of the attack line by directing the play and Ousey became a focal point shooting 23 of 29 goals in the last half of the match.

Casey Walker also went next level taking many timely interceptions.

Tantanoola’s defence was a highlight, creating held balls and strong rebounds.

Schultz continued to show up for the Burr and was rewarded with Clark shooting with an accuracy of 81%.

Mount Burr was tenacious all game and despite finishing the quarter seven goals down, they were strong at every ball.

Mount Burr changed its defence line up in the last quarter with Olivia Dean moving to GK to try to combat Gould and Ousey.

They gave their all, but the height and strength of their opposition was a big ask.

Mount Burr never lost their intensity and Tantanoola struggled to pull ahead despite having the majority of the play.

After a tough battle, the Tigers won the game 49-39.
