Ladder leader Port MacDonnell has reappointed first-year football coach Josh Woodall for a further season.
The journeyman has been an outstanding success as a playing coach because his Demons have already claimed the minor premiership with 13 wins and two losses.
The club lost a number of senior players over summer and has had to cope with the limited availability of playmakers Will Macdonald and Kevin Thomson.
Recruits such as Colby Munro and Christian Howlett have bolstered the seasiders along with Woodall who has played 13 games.
Woodall has been in good touch as a utility player with 22 goals and eight mentions among the weekly list of best players.
His career began in his teens at his home club Dartmoor in the South West District Football League.
Woodall played with North Gambier and South Gambier in the Western Border along with Jervois in the River Murray Football League from 2019-2021.
SANFL zone club Glenelg chose Woodall in 35 senior and 27 reserves games over four seasons from 2013-16.
Following a bye, Port MacDonnell hosts Hatherleigh on Saturday followed by another break ahead of the second semi final at Tantanoola on September 9.
The reappointment was announced by Port MacDonnell joint football operations managers, Ben McGregor and Raymondo Stanton.
“Josh and his family are a welcome addition to our club, which has resulted in a successful 2023 season,” they said.
“We are positive this will flow into 2024.
“We’re excited to watch his leadership evolve over the next few weeks as we inch closer to the finals.
“We are so proud to have many football and netball teams heading into the finals, let’s try and get as many supporters to each and every game we are in – there’s nothing better than a sea of red and blue on the sidelines!”
The other clubs in the Mid South East Football League to decide their coaches for 2024 are Hatherleigh (Tom Hutchesson), Mount Burr (Clint Gallio) and Robe (Nathan Brown).
