South Gambier will take on West Gambier this Saturday at McLaughlin Park in the Limestone Coast Football Netball League preliminary final.
This will be these sides’ fifth meeting this season with the Roos winning the first and the Dees winning the next three.
It was not too long ago when these sides last met as they faced each other in the final game of the home and away season.
The Dees should be feeling confident heading into Saturday’s preliminary given that last game resulted in a 43 point victory.
Heading into this game both sides have had similar forms as they have both lost two out of their last five matches.
However the Roos are coming off a big win over the Tigers two weeks ago whereas the Dees are coming off a loss to the Saints last week.
A key for the Roos going into this game will be their goal kicking.
The Roos have struggled a bit in their last two games, kicking 10 points last week and nine the week before that.
Last week their goal kicking accuracy kept the Tigers in the game when they should have been way more out in front.
Playing a side like South they are going to have to capitalise on every opportunity they get.
For the Dees to succeed their backline will have to hold strong.
Players like Rex Jones and their captain Taylor Saffin have been key defenders all season and will have to keep their form going into the game.
As this is these sides’ last chance of making the grand final this game will be very competitive but I would have to give South the slight edge over the Roos considering the outcome of their last encounter.
The winner of this game is set to face Millicent in the grand final.
B Grade
West Gambier v Millicent
West Gambier are set to play Millicent this Saturday at McLaughlin Park in the preliminary final.
These sides have faced each other three times this year with the Roos winning all three.
Despite West winning all three games they were all very competitive hit outs, with every game won by 15 or less points.
These sides have been very competitive in the league this season as this matchup is second facing third.
Although West finished higher than the Saints, Millicent have been a very dominant team this season as they finished with the highest win percentage in the league.
If this game plays out like the
other meetings then this will definitely be a very competitive and close game that should go right down to the wire.
The winner will face South Gambier in the grand final.
Under 17.5
South Gambier Red v East Gambier
South Gambier Red will face East Gambier in the under 17.5 preliminary final at McLaughlin Park.
These sides have only met once this season and it was back in May where the Doggies took care of the Dees, winning by 45 points.
Despite the Doggies beating the Dees, South still ended the season higher on the ladder.
Three games separated the teams but all of that does not matter in the finals.
So far in the finals neither side has played their best as the Doggies scraped by in the elimination game by only 10 points whereas the Dees lost by 30 points.
As these sides have only faced each other once this season there will be a lot of mystery around how this game will end.
The winner will take on North Gambier in the grand final.
