Deputy mayor’s role questioned

Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll has been asked to define the role of a deputy mayor.

The question without notice was posed by Councillor John Drew at the December monthly meeting.

Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Dunnicliff was an apology for the meeting.

He had defeated Cr Chris Brodie in a secret ballot at the November monthly meeting.

Cr Drew said he was aware that Mayor Noll had previously involved discussions of council business with the then deputy mayor and chief executive Ben Gower.

In reply, Mayor Noll said there was no written job description for deputy mayor.

“I had involved the deputy mayor in past discussions but I have not continued this,” Mayor Noll said.

Cr Drew said it was important the deputy mayor be well-informed.

“What if you get hit by a truck?” Cr Drew said with his tongue-in-cheek.
