Rendelsham 7/257 defeated Kingston 10/71
Rendelsham all-rounder Jake Wight almost single-handedly defeated Kingston with a century, a catch and bowling figures of 4/6 on Saturday.
It was the fourth round of the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association and Wight was untroubled by the searing heat on his home deck.
Coming in at 2/55 to join Dylan Clough, Wight belted the seaside bowlers to all parts of the Rendelsham Cricket Ground.
His powerhouse hitting belied the fact that a broken arm had sidelined him for a season with his beloved Hatherleigh Football Club.
Wight upped the ante as he approached the three-figure milestone and the 40 over compulsory closure.
His ton came up in the 37th over with a clean hit for six over deep mid-on.
It was his sixth career century and his proud parents Peter and Mardi Wight were looking on.
It was a case of Groundhog Day for Kingston as they had watched helplessly a week before when 16-year-old Millicent Black Hats batsman Ashton Lindner had made 105 on their home ground.
Helping Rendelsham pile on 7/257 were Clough (33) and Mitch Pulmer (55).
Wickets fell cheaply in the late innings chase for quick runs.
After 2.5 hours in the sun, the Kingston team faced a tough challenge.
Five scored ducks while Murdoch with 40 and Sibley with 22 put a value on their wickets.
Rendelsham only need 18 overs to take 10 wickets and pull off a 186-run victory.
As well as Wight, the five other Rendelsham bowlers took wickets
In keeping with tradition, the entire Rendelsham team posed at the oval gate post-match with the latest centurion.
Millicent Black Hats 8/187 defeated Mount Burr 10/125
Reigning premiers Millicent Black Hats made it four from four with a 62-run victory over Mount Burr at home at Norm Facey Oval.
Batting first, the home side was remarkably consistent with nine of the 10 batsmen reaching double figures while number 11 Michael Gibson did not leave the sheds.
The best was Mitchell Nitschke with 40 while the only one to miss dining out on the run feast was luckless all-rounder Jaxon Cushion.
Mark Wright took 3/34 while Taylor Allan claimed four catches.
The target of 188 is usually a gettable tally but not in the extreme heat.
Handy runs were made in the top order with 22 coming from the blade of teen Kallan Bevan. He spent the past winter in Adelaide with SANFL zone football team Glenelg.
The only other batsman of note was top-scorer Mark Wright with 40.
The visitors were dismissed in the 33rd over with Cambell Hately snaring 5/35.
Lucindale 4/138 defeated Naracoorte Warriors 10/135
The only team to bat first and lose on Saturday were the Naracoorte Warriors at Lucindale.
The visitors can thank Loren Bald’s 76 for getting them to a competitive tally of 10/135.
The home side was undaunted by neither the heat nor the target.
Accumulating runs at almost eight-per-run, Lucindale claimed victory in the 21st over.
Complete batting details were unavailable.
The Lucindale Oval hosted a charity match on Sunday to benefit the local Area School.
The T20 cricket match was held between the Lucindale Cricket Club and Limestone Coast Police in honour of police officer Jason Doig.
Brevet Sergeant Doig was killed in the line of duty at Senior last year.
The event began with a brief ceremony acknowledging Brevet Sgt Doig’s service, sacrifice and his deep connection to the Lucindale community.
This was followed by an address from Inspector William Humphris, on behalf of the Limestone Coast Local Service Area, and a presentation by Cops4Kids charity of the inaugural Jason Doig community scholarship grant.
Following the presentations, both sides competed in a T20 format cricket match.
The event was attended and well-supported by the local community, police and members of the Doig family.
The Lucindale Cricket Club came away with the win and were awarded the Memorial Shield, which was donated by the Lucindale Lions Club and made by a local carpenter.
Limestone Coast Police including Millicent’s Ben Partington played the Lucindale Cricket Club.
