Last Wednesday 24 ladies competed in a par round at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, sponsored by Gail Stephenson, on a very cold, wet and windy day.
The course had pin placements in difficult positions and only one golfer played below their handicap.
First place in Division 1 went to Di Norman (handicap 22) registered 1-up, due to her good front nine of 1-up, plus square on the back nine.
Overall Di pencilled in six wins and five wipes on the card.
In second place was ex-captain Jan Shanahan (handicap 17) with 1-down.
Jan had a really good score on the front nine with 3-up, but the difficult back nine proved an obstacle.
The in-form Mardi Goodes (handicap 29) won Division 2 on a countback overall scoring 2-down.
Mardi’s split was front nine 2-down, back nine square with wins on the 16th and 18th holes.
Second in Division 2 was Gail Lewis (handicap 42) also scoring 2-down.
Gail played consistently, having 1-down front nine and 1-down back nine and had pars on the 8th, 12th, 16th and 18th holes.
Because of the depleted field only three balls were handed out in the ball rundown and went to Penne Saffin, Helen McIntyre and Jess Parsons.
Pro shot on the 8th, par 3 hole was won by Jess Parsons.
Nearest the pin second shots on the 16th Par 3 hole went to Helen Gregor in A Grade, Lizzie Clements in B Grade and Lorraine Stratford C Grade.
Meanwhile, last Saturday 13 ladies competed in a stableford event in cold, wintry conditions.
Winning the day was Sharran Waters (handicap 31) scoring 34 points.
Sharran’s split for the two nines was 14/20 = 34 points including six three pointers on her card.
Second placing went to club stalwart Heather Chapman (handicap 33) with a consistent 17/16 = 33 points.
Heather’s score was assisted by a par on the 16th hole resulting in four points.
Three balls were handed out to Faye Mainwaring, Penne Saffin and Carol Smith.
Pro shot on the 8th par 3 hole went to Trudy Johnson.
