Digital future insight provided

The University of South Australia Mount Gambier Campus will host an insightful public lecture tonight regarding the future impact of digital learning in schools, businesses and the community.

University of South Australia learning analytics expert Professor Shane Dawson will present the lecture, which will be held in the Bob and Gayle Cowan Auditorium at the UniSA Campus.

Pre-lecture drinks, sponsored by Patrick of Coonawarra, will start at 6:30pm with the lecture commencing at 7pm, followed by a light supper.

Prof Dawson will explore advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and what this means for learning, teaching and career transitions.

“Advanced technologies are permeating all facets of what we do.” Prof Dawson said.

“New technologies will be particularly important in regional communities, erasing existing physical barriers to a quality education.

“Innovations in technology are transforming digital learning, creating immersive access to education in places where it’s not been possible before.

“It’s understanding what the strengths and limitations are around technologies.

“In communities and businesses, the notion that we do need to be lifelong learners now is absolutely critical.”

Prof Dawson said digital technologies were increasing and were here to stay.

He hopes people will leave the lecture with a greater understanding of how digital technologies interplay in all facets of education from early childhood through to tertiary, how it changes in the workplace and their lifelong impact.

“Education and digital education is available for all and there’s great opportunity being able to delve into that,” Prof Dawson said.

“And we also need to understand, as these technologies advance further, how we’re going to work with them and utilise them both in our education and workplace and community in general.”

Registrations via Eventbrite are essential and COVID-19 restrictions apply.
