Doggies ‘all in’ for final round

South Gambier v East Gambier

South Gambier and East Gambier are set to face off on Saturday in a Barber Shield match that could well impact the Doggies’ finals chances.

Given the Dees are out of finals’ contention, the only thing they have to play for is stopping East from making it as well as looking to end the season on a high note.

There is a slim chance the Doggies can make the finals, but it will depend on the results of other sides.

With that in mind, the Doggies are definitely the favourite in this match as they claimed the points in the last meeting between the two.

Both sides are coming off tough losses last week with the Doggies struggling in their bowling attack against the Roos as they scored 161 in the first innings and 154 in the second innings.

East will have to improve on this heading into their clash with the Dees, as South have been very good at the crease in their second innings over the past two games.

East will be looking at Ben Hentschke to have a big performance with the bat, similar to what he has done all season.

The Dees will be looking to get another solid performance out of Robbie Drenthen, who is coming off a five wicket performance last week, as well as Jed Sims who was great in their second innings, making 27 off 34.

West Gambier v North Sportsmans

Top of the ladder West Gambier and North Sportsmans will face off this Saturday with both sides setting their sights set on first place position in the final round of the season.

The Roos have been in top form in the back end of the season, winning three games in a row while the Tigers have let it slip a bit, losing both their first two games of 2025.

These sides last met in round three with the Roos knocking off the Tigers in a one day match.

The reigning premiers will be looking for the season sweep this round and will look to take this top form into the finals.

North on the other hand will look to get back into form ahead of finals and taking down the reigning premiers will be the best way to get back on track.

To come out with a win the Roos will be looking for their opener Justin de Jong to set the tone for the side.

This season de Jong has been in top form and has been a big reason for the Roos success in recent matches.

The Tigers will look at their bowling game to help get them the win as they have one of the best bowling lineups in the competition.

Players like Tim Young, Isaac Mulraney and Elliott Fisher have been top bowlers for the Tigers this year and they will need to be at their best.

This will be a great game to watch as the two top teams face off in a potential grand final match up.

ON THE ROAD: Jack Miller and Mil Lel will hit the road as they face Penola on Saturday.

Penola v Mil Lel

Penola will take on Mil Lel this Saturday with a lot to play for as these two sides look to get in the best position come finals.

Both sides are coming off great wins last week with Penola knocking off the previous first placed North Tigers while Mil Lel kept their finals hopes alive with a win over South.

A lot of Mil Lel’s success has come from their all round team performances, with solid batting across the list as well as everyone stepping up in the bowling, making them a tough team to play.

A lot of the Eagles’ success, especially at the crease, comes from the form of Jack Mullan who has been great all season.

Complementing Mullan in the batting attack this year has been Bredon Smart and Drew Clayfield who have both been tremendous at the crease and will cause problems for Mil Lel’s bowlers.
