The family of late Millicent district resident Ada Gurney has recently made donations to two local charities which were dear to her heart.
She passed away at the Millicent and District Hospital in 2023 at the age of 97.
She was a member of the well-known Whitehead family of Lake Bonney and “The Wyrie”.
Although busy with family and work responsibilities, Ms Gurney made two trips to Canada as well as England, Bali, Norfolk Island and many parts of Australia.
Her collection of overseas currency was recently sold and raised almost $1600.
It was divided equally between the Millicent Cancer Support Group and the Millicent support group for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Ms Gurney was active in a number of community groups including the Millicent Legacy Widows Club (president) and the Millicent Show Society (indoor section convenor, hall steward, life member and patron).
Well past her 90th birthday, she was still selling her home-cooked jams, relishes and sauces at stalls and markets across the region to benefit the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Footnote: The Millicent Cancer Support Group has recently received a donation of $562 from the Beachport Bowling Club.
It represents a part of the proceeds of their annual Bill Werchon Memorial Legacy Bowls Day.
