The Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association hosted a mixed doubles fast 4 competition for all senior players on Sunday, with competition spread across two divisions.
The Division 1 comp comprised four teams and a division 3 comp also featured four sides.
The teams played fast 4 rules with the only change being they played to six games instead of four.
Fast 4 makes for an exciting fast paced game with different rules to normal tennis like playing lets and going to sudden death in deuce.
In the Division 1 competition Reidy Park’s Maggie Collins and Uniting’s Kobe Cole took home the trophy.
Collins and Cole had a great day, finishing undefeated while also defeating last year’s champions Tessa Megaw and Andrew van den Hurk 6-4. They also had a tight battle against Jess Stutley and Kobi Martin as they took a 6-5 win with a 6-3 in another match to help seal the victory.
It was close between Collins and Cole and Megaw and van den Hurk in the final standings with the victory helping secure the win as Collins and Cole defeated last year’s champions by only two games.
In the division 3 competition Mil Lel’s Jessica Galloway and Simon Berg were crowned champions.
Galloway and Berg were solid all day with a 6-1 win over CJ Arnold and Kate Fabian, a 6-4 victory against Katie Welden and Tyler Johnston while also having a 6-0 win to help them edge out the competition.
It was a close battle in the division 3 competition as there were two games separating first and second and only five games separating second and third.
Tennis action will return to courts around town on February 1 with Division 1 action kicking off again as West Gambier takes on Uniting while Glencoe hosts Reidy Park with Mount Schank/Mil Lel/Mount Gambier having the bye.
