Drug lab bust

Limestone Coast police made two drug busts in the region late last week.


Mount Gambier police located a clandestine laboratory during the search of a Penola address on Friday.


Just after 7.30pm that day Mount Gambier detectives attended and searched a Penola address.


During the search, police located a clan lab used for the manufacture of illicit drugs.


Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives attended the scene to assist with the safe dismantling and seizure of the lab.


Police subsequently arrested a 42-year-old man from the address and charged him with manufacturing a controlled drug.


He was refused police bail and will appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court.


Meanwhile, Mount Gambier police also located a cannabis crop during a search in Blackfellows Caves last week.


On Thursday Port MacDonnell police attended and searched the scrub at Blackfellows Caves.


During the search, police located a mature cannabis crop containing more than 35 cannabis plants.


The investigation is continuing into both incidents and anyone with information relating to the Blackfellows Caves illegal drug crop or information on the sale, supply, manufacture or distribution of illicit drugs is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.


In other police news, Umpherston Sinkhole/Balumbul kiosk has been closed until further notice following a break in early on Sunday morning.


Police are investigating the break in and the extent of the damage is to be determined.


Mount Gambier City Council has urged people to avoid the site and contact SAPOL if you have any information about the incident.


Meanwhile, an Adelaide man was arrested after crashing a stolen car on the Dukes Highway near Bordertown early yesterday morning.


Police and emergency services were called to the scene of a crash after reports a car had left the road and collided with a barrier just after 1.30am.


Witnesses to the crash reported the driver had run from the scene.


Police identified the crashed car was stolen from Davoren Park on March 30.


Police conducted a search for the driver, locating him nearby.


A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with a raft of offences including driving unlicensed, speed dangerous, theft of motor vehicle and property damage.


He was refused bail to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court late yesterday.


The stolen car was seized by police.
