Eagles return to winning ways with dominant performance

Penola v Casterton Sandford


Penola got back on the winners list on Sunday after a big win over Casterton Sandford in Nangwarry in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League.


Both sides had solid starts in the opening term, both hitting the scoreboard.


Despite both teams getting on the board, the Eagles had a slight edge over the Cats with a few more shots at goal and after the opening term held a six point lead.


The Eagles dominated possession in the second and played great defence, holding the Cats to one point.


On the offensive end the Eagles began to add to their lead, adding two more goals and taking their lead to 17 points at half time.


The Eagles continued to hold their lead as they once again bagged two more goals in the third quarter.


The Cats continued to struggle as they could only get two points in the quarter which took them into the final term trailing by 28 points.


The Cats still could not get much going offensively in the final stanza as they once again only registered two points.


Penola finished strong, adding another goal to seal the 33 point win and their spot back into the top four.


Penola’s Angela Broad had a big day on Sunday, kicking six goals in the win.


Penola defeated Casterton Sandford 7.4 (46) to 1.7 (13).


BIG WIN: North Gambier and Sophie Wight came away with a big win over Nangwarry on Sunday.

Nangwarry v North Gambier


North Gambier’s dominance continued on Sunday with a huge win over Nangwarry at their home deck.


The Tigers got off to a flying start in the opening quarter, holding the Saints scoreless while putting eight goals on the board and taking a 53 point into the first break.


The Tigers continued to keep the pressure on Nangwarry, holding them scoreless again while hitting the century mark with another eight goal quarter.


By halftime North’s lead grew to 103 points.


In the third quarter the Tigers kept rolling as the goals continued to pile on, with six more on the board.


Going into the final term North held a 142 point lead.


The Tigers had their lowest scoring quarter of the game but it did not matter as they were already in the clear after they held Nangwarry scoreless for the game.


North Gambier’s Lucy Pridham finished as the side’s best while Alice Tentye kicked nine goals in the win.


Millicent v South Gambier


South Gambier picked up their first win of the season on Sunday against Millicent at McDonald Park.


Both sides started slow in the first term with the Saints struggling in front of goal.


Millicent could have pushed out to a big lead but struggled to convert on shots at goal, finishing the term with seven points while the Dees were still looking to get on the board.


The Saints continued to struggle getting goals on the board despite having plenty of chances to do so.


South were able to get a score on the board but could only come up with a point and at half time the Saints held an eight point lead.


Both sides finally got things going in the forward line as they both managed a major score on the board.


However the Dees were able to get two goals to the Saints’ one which took them into the final term trailing the Saints by only two points.


In the fourth quarter the Dees played great defensively as they held the Saints scoreless.


With an opportunity to win the game the Dees took it as they got a final quarter goal which helped seal their first win of the season.


South Gambier’s Grace Altschwager was named as her side’s best while captain Chole Newton kicked two goals.


CLASH OF THE TIGERS: Susannah Maber and Kybyboilte came out on top in their clash with Mundulla on Sunday.

Mundulla v Kybybolite


The two powerhouses of Kybybolite and Mundulla faced off on Sunday with Kyby coming out on top and retaining their undefeated streak.


In the first term Kyby dominated most of the possession but struggled to get out to a solid lead with only one goal in the term.


Mundulla on the other hand could only get one minor score on the board which had them trailing at quarter time by seven points.


Both sides struggled to get many points on the board in the second period, with Mundulla kicking a point and Kyby kicking two.


After a low scoring first half the reigning premiers held a small eight point lead.


Mundulla were able to get a goal on the board in the third, but it did not do much to cut into Kyby’s lead as they added two goals and a few minor scores which took them into the final term with a 18 point lead.


Kyby finished strong, holding Mundulla goalless while putting two more goals on the board to seal the 28 point win.


Kybybolite’s Jeddah Huf and Ella Boston were two top performers in the win, both kicking a goal.


Kybybolite defeated Mundulla 5.10 (40) to 1.6 (12).
