Eagles soar towards finals contention

Penola keeps creeping into the finals race of the 2022 Bendigo Bank Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Netball League season after a confidence building win in round 7 on Saturday.

The Eagles met a struggling Padthaway side and eased to the premiership points away from home.

The Lions started with some drive with Kaitlyn Ward and Holly Bottroff finding the goal ring, but they could not compete with April Possingham and company.

The Eagles were on fire with strong supply giving Possingham and Ash Earl ample opportunity to score.

Penola produced its most prolific passage of play in the first term scoring 22 goals, more than double what the hosts could muster.

This set the tone for the remainder of the contest as the Eagles restricted Padthaway to just seven goals in the second quarter.

After half time the game followed a similar script and Penola cruised home winning 73-39 with Possingham in dominant touch scoring 60 goals.

The best game of the round took place at Kybybolite where the hosts meet Keith in the battle for second spot on the ladder.

The contest was a cracker going back and forth across the four quarters.

Danielle Vankalken and Erika Lamont combined well to help the Crows fly, but Chelsea Bull was in fine form and she pushed Kyby over the line by just eight goals.

Border Districts took on Bordertown in a low scoring and one sided affair at Frances.

The home side got the early lead and managed to cling onto it despite a tight second term.

Lily Pfitzner and Della Hannaford were the top performers in the 48-29 win, while Lucy Murch battled hard.

Naracoorte kept on building its case at the top of the ladder with a comfortable win over Mundulla.

The Demons dashed out of the blocks with a huge first term outscoring the Tigers 15-2 before the opening change.

Mundulla did score with more freedom for the remainder of the game, but thanks to the fine efforts of Lucy Henschke and Ash Bennier, Naracoorte was always an untouchable figure winning 58-29.

The KNTNA takes a break this weekend for the June long weekend country championships.
