Early morning smash and grab robbery in Millicent

Police are investigating a smash and grab at the Millicent Chemist and Giftware store in the early hours of Friday morning.

Access was gained by hurling a bag containing a brick through a large plate glass window fronting George Street.

Retail manager Sarah Eccles-Smith said some packets of over-the-counter flu medication containing pseudo ephedrine were stolen which could be used to make “ice”. It is believed 18 packets were stolen.

“We are hopeful there is CCTV footage from the George Hotel across the road,” she said.

Millicent police were notified at 2.50am and are investigating.

The chemist has an alarm and a security company has since patrolled the area.

Millicent Windows and Doors are undertaking the repairs and the repair bill is estimated to be $2,000.

A police crime scene examiner has inspected the chemist shop and anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
