The closing date for the Mount Gambier Eisteddfod Calisthenics Division is fast approaching. Eisteddfod organiser
Backstage Inc secretary Maxine Chalinor said the “other” division was closing next month or early June. “So far very pleasing entries have been received in both callisthenics and dance with entrants coming from further afield than usual,” she said.
Ms Chalinor said organisers were pleased with the new restriction on the seating in theatres. “We were concerned that we may have had to restrict the number of people who could view a division and this always causes discontent,” she said.
“Theatres can now seat 75% capacity for people without masks and 100% with masks. “A decision on masks or not will be made closer to the event, depending on the amount of entries and on the government ruling at the time.”
Ms Chalinor said Backstage was farewelling a long-time dedicated worker Merry Dickins who was leaving the district. “Merry has been a part of the speech and drama committee for many years,” she said.
“She was also the person responsible for setting up the debating division into a division in its own right and developing the support of the local schools that we now enjoy. “Her contribution will be missed.”
