Elected member stood down

An elected member of the Robe District Council has been stood down by the Electoral Commissioner for breaching the mandated councillor returns at November’s election.

The councillor has lodged an appeal for reinstatement through the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Robe Mayor Lisa Ruffell said the matter was heard by SACAT on Friday and the councillor expected to hear the outcome of the appeal in about three weeks. Ms Ruffell said the identity of the councillor was not being released by her at this time.

Robe District Council usually functions with a mayor and six councillors but there are currently only four in office.

The Electoral Commissioner has penalised 45 other councillors across South Australia for similar breaches.
