Experience leads new kids on block

The Penola Netball Club will take the court for its first Limestone Coast Football Netball League season on Saturday with a special milestone to celebrate.

Experienced Eagle and A Grade coach Sally Skeer will step on court for her 300th game on Saturday, when Penola faces Millicent.

Skeer is undoubtedly a cornerstone of the Penola Netball Club, and her legacy speaks for itself.

Despite her smaller stature, she has outshone opponents with her exceptional speed, agility, precision passing and unwavering competitive spirit.

Her list of A Grade individual accolades includes 13 best and fairest awards at the club level, along with several runner-up finishes, two A Grade league best and fairest awards, and a league most consistent title.

She has consistently been a top performer in the league, frequently appearing in the top 10 rankings and earning a spot in the league’s A Grade team of the year on five occasions.

Skeer has also proudly represented KNT at the Country Championships multiple times and was awarded A Reserve league Runner Up and Club Best and Fairest last year.

She was also a very proud member of the first ever A Grade Penola Netball Premiership in 2021, and was there again to help the team get over the line in 2023.

However, Skeer’s impact extends far beyond her personal achievements. She is a player who commands respect from teammates, opponents and officials alike.

Skeer has held various senior coaching roles and served on the committee for over 10 years, including a second term as president.

After a few years off, Skeer has once again put her hand up to coach the 2025 A Grade team, of which she will once again also be an integral playing member.

Her greatest passion, though, lies in nurturing the next generation of netballers. As a devoted junior coach, Skeer has shared her wisdom and experience with countless young players.

She has also taken on the role of Junior Coaching Coordinator ensure the future of junior development and performance of our junior coaches are in good hands.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Skeer was honoured with life membership in 2019.

Her unwavering dedication to the Penola Netball Club, unmatched skills on the court and her commitment to developing the club’s future make her a true legend.

The Penola Netball Club congratulates Skeer and thanks her for all she have given to the club.
