Faiths come together

AMillicent tradition dating back decades was marked this month.

It was the rostered turn of the Millicent Salvation Army Corps to host an annual ecumenical event.

Around 40 members from nine of Millicent’s Christian churches gathered at the Bramwell Street citadel for the World Day of Prayer.

The hour-long service was led by Tim Frost who is the corps leader at Millicent and Mount Gambier.

Members from the various denominations took roles in the service including Jeanette Grosser (Seventh Day Adventist), Ruth Stratford and Helen Walker (Anglican), Elizabeth Nelson and Gwenda Browne (Catholic), Faye Hunt (Salvation Army), Lois Schwarz and Helene Van Eeden (Lutheran), Diane Sampson (Baptist) and Fay Richards and Ilma Lo Iacono (Uniting).

The worshippers included members of the Presbyterian Church and Millicent Community Church.

The theme of the 2023 service was “Taiwan: I have heard about your faith” and it was followed by morning tea.

The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year.

It is a movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions.

It will be the turn of the Anglican Church to host Millicent’s World Day of Prayer in 2024.

It is one of a number of ventures which are conducted by the Millicent Ministers Association.
