Familiar face to lead show society

The Mount Gambier Agriculture and Horticultural Society held its Annual General Meeting recently which saw a familiar face take the helm.

Brian Kerr stepped down as president with Kerry Hill elected in the position while Malcom Kilsby will serve as senior vice president, Ollie Abblett is the junior vice president and Kely Beard retained the secretary position.

“Kerry has been a president at the showground previously and she was willing to take that role back on,” Mr Kerr said.

“Kerry is always on top of things and the public and showgoers seem very happy to work with Kerry, she gets on well with everyone and she is a friendly face in the office.

“I have stepped down as president but am still heavily involved in the show just now I have gone back to the pastural committee at the show looking after the sheepdogs, stud sheep and trial dogs.”

Mr Kerr said this year’s GEM Mount Gambier Spring Show in October was “looking very good”.

“The Showman’s Guild are looking to bring a different variety of rides down which is good and we have almost secured all our main attractions as well which is a difficult thing to do so far out from the show,” he said.

“We are just hoping the public get behind the Mount Gambier Show 2025 and the more people involved, the bigger success it is going to be.”

Earlier last month, the Mount Gambier showgrounds was broken into on several nights but the stolen goods were located by police a short time later with the matter yet to be finalised.

“We are moving on from that and have pushed that behind us and will get our repairs completed and move on,” Mr Kerr said.

“We are all very thankful of the efforts of SAPOL and thankful we were able to obtain most of our equipment back.”
