Farm gates reopen in style

The Echo Farm Fest will plough on to welcome Echo Farm into the new season this Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

Echo Farm owner Linda Hay is looking forward to hosting live entertainment with George the Farmer, Ben Hood and Widowism with young children expected to have a “hay day”.

“This event will take place the day after we have reopened after being closed during winter so we will now be open every weekend until next August,” she said.

“There will be a move and groove workshop hosted by the Mount Gambier Library and a song-writing session with Phoenix Music Studios.”

Mrs Hay said she has tried to “spread the love” as far as it goes with multiple local acts and getting the community involved.

“The Umbrella Festival has helped us bring music to the region giving local musicians the chance to perform,” she said.

In harmony with the local music there will be self-guided farm tours, horse and cart rides, glitter body art and Echo Farm speciality “Nanna’s Scones”.

“My mum is the cook, and she is a real nanna, so she makes old fashioned CWA scones that people always look forward to,” Mrs Hay said.

The event is currently fully booked due to COVID restrictions.

“We will have to wait and see what the weather is doing as far as the wind because if we can open up the marquee it will be considered outside allowing us to accommodate for more people,” Mrs Hay said.

Mrs Hay said the event was aimed at a younger audience of pre-schoolers and primary school aged children.

“We want to make it especially festive for them because the average age at this event is four meaning a lot of young kids have missed out on potentially half of their life of life entertainment due to COVID,” she said.

“I am really thrilled with the response the Echo Farm Fest has received and I think it is a good chance for families with young kids to get out during the first weekend of the school holidays.

“We will run ahead with what we have got and hopefully everyone has a great time.”
