Fashion showcase to be unveiled

Unique fashion garments are sought for an upcoming fashion parade in Millicent.

The inaugural Millicent MET Wearable Art Competition was held in 2023 at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre as a fundraiser for the Imagine Millicent community arts group (IMAG).

Featuring wearable art, the second Millicent MET will be held at the same venue on May 30.

It is regarded as a fun runway competition event showcasing unique garments that feature artistic elements such as graphics, colour, shape, texture and form.

All entries must be made as much as possible from recycled, waste or excess material that might otherwise have entered landfill.

With an overall theme of Sustainability, there are five categories and each carry prizemoney of $250.

They are Art for Arts Sake, Most Sustainable, Inclusion, Students aged under 18 and People’s Choice.

A nomination fee applies and entries must be submitted by April 30.

Entrants must provide information citing the inspiration for the outfit and the materials used to create it.

They must model or provide a model for the runway display.

IMAG member Helen Joyce is coordinating the 2025 Millicent MET with the guest judges including fellow 2023 winner Helen Varcoe as well as Beachport artist Mark De Nys.

The 2025 Millicent MET Gala is part of the Wattle Range Council Re-a-Range Weekend which runs from May 30 to June 1.

The 2023 fashion parade carried an admission price of $25-per-head and was well supported by entrants and attended.

The first MET Gala received a $3000 grant from Wattle Range Council

It was one of eight activities to receive seed funding from the council in 2022/23.
