Almost a decade of determination has paid off for two Limestone Coast musicians with the release of their first video clip

Adelaide-based indie trio Orelia has just released the clip for new single “Wake Up Call”, produced by Kris Jaw-Moss.

The song is an introspective view of individual’s place in society, illustrated through a frantic struggle to escape the monotony of day-to-day life.

Singer songwriter Chelsea Turner and drummer Troy Benson both hail from Mount Gambier and have been performing together as Orelia for eight years.

Over the last year and a half, the band has developed a fresh new sound adding the likes of bass player Heath Trebilcock to the talented line up.

“Troy and I grew up together in Mount Gambier while Heath is from Broken Hill so we’re kind of like these rural kids who have come together in Adelaide and made a band,” Ms Turner said.

Ms Turner and Mr Benson both attended the “wonderful” Mount Gambier High School.

After meeting at just 15 years old Mrs Turner and Mr Benson have been playing music together ever since.

“When Troy and I first met each other in high school we were the kind of kids who would hang out in the drama and music rooms during recess and lunch,” Ms Turner said.

Ms Turner said they were lucky to attend a high school that was so open to the arts much like her parents, fellow musicians Jennifer and Ray Turner.

At 15 years old Mrs Turner joined her first band, all girl group ‘Midori Madness’ alongside two fellow Mount Gambier High School peers.

“One of the band members did not have her own drum kit so my parents bought a drum kit for her to practice on,” Ms Turner fondly recalls.

On another occasion, when Ms Turner decided she wanted to record her own music, her parents gave her money to go to Dale Cleves Music store and buy a mixing deck.

“If I did not have my parents’ unconditional support who knows what I would be doing now,” she said.

“I am so grateful for them and any parent that gives their child the space to pursue their passion is a good parent in my eyes.”

Ms Turner got her first taste of recording at 18 years old after joining rock band ‘Queen Akini’ and creating songs with lead guitarist Damien Smith.

“That was the first time I had ever properly recorded anything with a band, that was a cool time for me, comprised of playing shows around Mount Gambier at the Old Goal and local pubs,” she said.

“As for Orelia, you can look forward to a new single being dropped by the end of the year.

“This single is quite different to ‘Wake Up Call’ instead displaying more of our jazz influence side in a love song dedicated to falling in love with somebody,” Ms Turner revealed.
