Regular film screenings have recently ceased at the South Coast Cinema at Beachport.

The Railway Terrace facility has had intermittent problems with faulty projection equipment for almost a decade and there have been lengthy periods of closure.

There are hopes the equipment can be functional again soon. The current movies are being screened by a private promoter.

The cinema has also been the base for the Beachport Film Society since 1995 and it has run monthly screenings ever since.

Its first-ever screening in May of that year was the vintage Beatles movie “A Hard Day’s Night!”.

Charity screenings are also held at the council-owned venue and it is also used for concerts and meetings.
