REGIONAL Victorians know there’s nothing like country footy and this weekend, the South-West turned on a sensational prelude to the 2025 AFL grand final.
Casterton Sandford made its first preliminary final appearance in the Limestone Coast Football Netball League, going down in a heart-stopper to the West Gambier Roos.
In the South West, Coleraine celebrated a successful season – one where every team in the club made finals – with its end of season presentations, while Dartmoor’s event saw the announcement of the re-signing of Senior coach Jayden Polaski, for his 10th year in the top role.
But the biggest celebrations of the weekend were with the Harrow Balmoral Southern Roos, who ran over the Noradjuha Quantong Bombers to claim their third consecutive Horsham District Premiership Flag.
Among the Roos ranks, five players made their own champter in history, becoming five-times premiership players with the club.
Local lads Simon Close, Peter Staude – best-on in the grand final – Anthony Close, Will Plush and Dalton Burns celebrated their records and Mad Monday with another local footy legend.
Kevin ‘Stumpy’ Kearns, 86 years young, is an eight-time Balmoral premiership player and returned to his old stomping ground at the weekend, to celebrate with his Roos.
