Finals series get underway

The final series of the Ladies Pennant Competition in the Lower South East Bowling Association has kicked off.

The Penola Ladies team played Port MacDonnell at Naracoorte RSL last week.

They were defeated 34 shots to 49 shots.

The rink skippered Kathy Brooks was the only winning rink for Penola and her rink won by one shot.

The loss eliminated Penola from the finals race.

The last minor round of the Lower South East Bowling Association Open Pennants Competition was played on Saturday.

The Penola Division 2 team played Kalangadoo at Penola and the result of this game had a big influence on the final positions of these two clubs.

Penola had a significant win by 29 shots, 89-60.

The rink skippered by Justin Robbie won by 17 shots, the rink skippered by Peter Thompson won by eight and the rink skippered by Scott Degenhardt won by four.

Because Port MacDonnell beat Kingston, Penola finished in second place on the ladder.

All finals in Division 2 Open Pennants will be played at Kalangadoo on Saturday (March 2).

Kalangadoo will play Penola and Kingston will play Mount Gambier RSL.

The Division 3 North team played Kingston at Kingston and lost by 47 shots, 60-107.

Penola’s best rink was skippered by Maria Hunter losing by four.

The Division 3 South team played Mount Gambier RSL at Penola and lost by four, 67-71.

The rink skippered by Rex Williams won by seven and the rink skippered by Adrian Wicks drew with their opponents.

Neither of these teams will be participating in the final series.

The Shane Batt Memorial Night Bowling Competition was concluded last week.

The winning team was the Bipolar Rollers with Aiden Mills, Matt Hutchesson, and Mitch Baugh.

A successful season was concluded with a supper and raffle draw.

The season would not be possible without the generous support of numerous sponsors.
