Fish takes first prize

KEN DANCEY & MARION COWLAND
 – GOLF

SATURDAY, 1 March monthly medal stroke, winner Ewan Herring (16) 65 from Alan Rees (10) 70.

Nearest the pins went to Ewan Herring on the 2nd, Alan Rees on the 8th, Max Richardson on the 13th and Pat Hegarty on the 17th.

The Saturday, 8 March Stableford round was won by John Matthews (14) on 39 points from Noel Fitzgerald (8) on 38 points.

Nearest the pins went to Murray Frost on the 2nd, Barney McArlein on the 8th, Neville Wombwell on the 13th and Noel Fitzgerald on the 17th; Steve Hindson took second shot on the 9th.

On Saturday, 15 March, par round winner was Bill May (17), +2 on countback from Ken Dancey (20) also +2.

Nearest the pins went to Bill May on the 2nd, Ken Dancey on the 8th, Roy McCallum on the 13th and Gary Carlin on the 17th; second shot on the 9th went to Ewan Herring.

Tyler Vise (17) won the Wednesday, 5 March Stableford round on 40 points from Nev Wombwell on 38 points.

Nearest the pins went to Neville Wombwell on the 2nd, A Skinner on the 8th, Ken Bibby on the 13the and Neville Lee on the 17th, with Richard Layley taking second shot on the 9th.

Wednesday, 12 March stableford round winner was Ken Dancey (20) with 40 points from Roy McCallum (9) on 35 points.

Nearest the pins went to Roy McCallum on the 2nd, Ewan Herring on the 8th, Maurice Faroe on the 13th, Richard Layley on the 17th and second shot on the 9th went to Roy McCallum.

There will be no golf for the men on Wednesday, 20 March, as we have the three-way challenge at Penola.

Women’s golf

THE Women’s Summer Season Trophies were presented this week and the first week of the new season played.

On 12 March, the first round of the President’s Trophy was won by Marion Cowland (24) on 35 points, from Marg Ferguson (28) 34 points, on countback from Shirley Koch.

Nearest the pins went to Anne Michau on the 2nd, Denise Newell on the 8th and 13th and Marg Ferguson on the 17th.

Dot Norris was recognised for her successful Summer on the fairways at the end-of-season presentations.

The Jill Crozier Summer Cup is the main trophy and is played weekly throughout summer with points accumulated for every round throughout the season; the golfer with the most points at the end of the season wins the perpetual trophy.

Norris won the 11-hole competition for 2024-25 with 16 points and runner-up was Yvonne Rees with 12 points.

Norris also took out the 18-hole Stroke Trophy sponsored by Maree Murphy, runner-up Marion Cowland.

The winner of the 11-hole Putting Trophy sponsored by Margaret Martin was Sandra McGann, runner-up Marion Cowland.

Cowland took her own winner’s prize home, awarded Champion of Monthly Medals for the Winter competition.
