Footballers gear up for carnival clash

Local football leagues are taking a King’s Birthday long weekend hiatus with standard matches set to be replaced by an interleague carnival on Saturday.

Bordertown will host the 2023 Limestone Coast Regional Carnival between the Western Border, Mid South Eastern and Kowree-Naracoorte Tatiara football leagues.

The first game will see the under 15s WBFL side coached by Andrew Nitchske take on the KNT league under 15s.

The second game will have the WBFL taking on KNT in the under 17s.

The WBFL side will be coached by North Gambier’s A grade coach Ben Hardy.

MSE and KNT will play in the under 15s, followed by the under 17s, with WBFL taking on the MSE in under 15s and then under 17s.

The first bounce of the seniors match between KNT and WBFL will be at 2.50pm.

The WBFL side will be coached by Millicent A grade coach Clint Gallio.

Galio has been an incredible leader during his time at Millicent, taking the side from a winless season to back-to-back premiers and currently sitting top of the ladder aiming for a three peat.

West Gambier will be represented in the squad by Daron McElroy, Branden Newton, Andrew Stone, Lawrence Bradley Brown, Tom Homles, Jesse Pfitzner, Joe Ferguson Lane, Michael Minuzzo and Mitchell Cornolo.

The East Gambier players include Jack Lawrence, Shaun Lock, Nick Lock, Reece Lilicrap and Mark Rumberlow.

North Gambier players in the squad are Nick McInerney, Jake Shutz, Sam Stafford, Hamish Telford, Brett Sherpherson and Cameron Ortlepp.

Jacob Carger, Gallio, Kade Bradley, Sam Willis, Josh Werchon, Zac McGuinness, Kade Varcoe and Frazer Bradley will represent Millicent.

While Casterton Sandford’s Diarmond Cleary, Hamish McRae, Michael Krieger, Adam Mckinnon and Jarrod O’Brian have all been selected in the squad.

Finally five South Gambier players made the squad with Mitchell Sims, Brayden Kain, Emerson Marks, Taylor Saffin and Oliver Thompson.

It’s going to be an exciting contest between two high class teams that will result in some exciting local football.
