Form to be found in two-dayers

South Gambier v North Sportsmans

South Gambier will take on North Sportsmans this Saturday in the first two day series of the season at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Both sides are coming off a tough loss last week in the one day games where neither batted or fielded to the best of their abilities.

It was a big surprise for the Tigers in their match against West considering how well they had been playing leading up to the game.

South on the other hand is still a bit hard to judge this early on due to missing their round two clash with Mil Lel.

Despite missing a game the Dees have looked solid early on but still have areas of improvement to be made.

Given this is the first two day match of the season anything can happen so it should be interesting to see how these sides go about playing in the different format.

East Gambier v Mil Lel

East Gambier will host Mil Lel on Saturday at Allan Scott Park in their first two day match.

After a slow start to the season the Doggies have looked very good over the past two weeks with back to back wins.

Mil Lel is in a similar position with a tough week one loss but they pulled it together last weekend with a big win over Penola where they batted and bowled well.

I expect both sides to put up some big scores in this game as they have the players to do so while also being the two highest run totals scored from last round.

Mil Lel’s William Rowland will be looking to take last week’s form into this game after putting up 57 runs off 89 balls.

Another big hitter will be East Gambier’s Ben Hentschke who is coming off a monster game last week, scoring 95 runs off 106 balls.

With some high level batters on both teams this should be a great watch and a high scoring game.

Penola v West Gambier

Penola will go head to head against the reigning premiers West Gambier this Saturday at Frew Park.

After a bumpy start to the season the Roos got back on track last week with a big win over North.

Penola on the other hand started strong in round one but has struggled over the past two games, especially with their batting.

In the past two games Penola’s batting has really let them down, scoring 78 last week and 77 the week before that.

Penola will really need to get back to the form they had in the opening round if they want to get up and secure their second win of the season.

West captain Bray Stephenson hopes his side can get a win in the first two day match but does not expect it to be easy.

“Hopefully we can get a win with the first two dayer, it will be a tough game,” he said.

“They’re a good side, they probably underperformed last season, I think they have a better side than what they finished up as last season so it’s never an easy game against them.

“They have got a lot of handy batters in their line up and a pretty good bowling side too so it’s never an easy game.”
