Former professional Craig Davis put on a clinic at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last Thursday to claim last Thursday’s Stableford event.
Davis shot 40 points to secure the winner’s cheque by two points from Tim Driver and Chris Gabriel who were both on 38.
Davis playing off a plus 2 handicap had an impressive 66 off the stick with three birdies and a bogey on the front.
But he then charged home with two birdies and an eagle on the back for nines of 34 and 32 respectively.
Driver took second place by virtue of a count back and the ball rundown extended to 35 points with Peter Lock taking the last one.
Nearest the pins belonged to David Cameron on the 8th hole and Shane Brook on the 16th hole with both players rolling in their putts for a two.
Glorious conditions greeted all 105 players on Saturday and scoring was a good as the weather.
Matthew Bowering had the round of the day with 43 points to claim B Grade by three points from Simon Tulak.
Bowering’s round highlighted by an eagle 3 on the par five 7th hole and a one under the card front nine of 35 off the stick and 26 stableford points.
His back nine was not quite the same quality but a further 17 points saw him post a six over the card 78 off the stick.
Moryn Sullivan had 41 points to take A Grade by one point from David Pick while in C Grade Philip Walters posted 38 points to win by two from John Miles, who cannot stop his hot run of form.
The ball rundown extended to 33 points with Hayden Cook snaring the last one.
Nearest the pin was won by Peter Lock on the 8th and Craig Foster on the 16th.
The Saturday and Thursday competitions were also hotly contested in the previous week.
The golden form of Miles entered a new postcode after he tore up the Mount Gambier Golf Club course for a second straight week.
This time Miles conquered the recent Thursday Stableford competition, posting the round of the day with an impressive tally of 41 points.
Playing off 18 Miles went out in 22 points highlighted by a birdie three for four points on the 4th hole.
To complete the job he came home with 19 points on the back to add another winner’s prize to his recent success.
His 41 was two points clear of runner up Dane Hendrick on 39.
Charles Goode and Ross Bond were right behind on 38 points apiece.
The ball rundown extended to 35 points with Dennis Smith securing the last one.
Nearest the pin went to Barry Brook on the steep 8th green while Henry Forbes performed on the 16th. Only Brook was able to roll in his birdie putt though.
Crisp and pristine conditions greeted golfers for the Stableford competition which followed three days later.
Jason Millhouse had the round of the day with 40 points which was too good for the field.
A steady eight pars and 10 bogeys saw the 14 marker post a respectable 82 off the stick.
His 40 points saw him claim the B Grade win by two from David Douglas on 38.
New member Asim Cheema took the C Grade win with 39 points.
Cheema is a regular around the putting green constantly working on his short game amongst a sea of yellow balls.
The arduous work has paid off and saw him win by four points from Peter Jones on 35.
In A Grade popular clubman Craig Foster posted an excellent 38 points to win by one from Jeff Olafsen on 37.
Foster playing off 6 shot a 76 off the stick with the only blemish being a triple bogey on the 13th.
Back-to-back birdies on holes nine and 10 and another on the 18th meant that some of the damage was repaired but not undone.
