Friday night league delight

Senior men

Gambier Central v Apollo

Gambier Centrals will face Apollo tomorrow night at MGA Park to kick off Round 14 of the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League.

Apollo has beaten Centrals twice this season with their last meeting being an exceptionally competitive match with Apollo winning 4-3.

Apollo had last week off so they should be fresh and ready whereas Centrals took on Naracoorte and came away with a big win.

This is a huge match-up as Centrals currently sits third and Apollo fourth with only a point separating them.

If Centrals can get a win it will help their chances of finishing in the top two as Blue Lake are only four points ahead.

Centrals club president Shane Dycer spoke to The SE Voice about the significance of the match up.

“We’re playing for a home final, we’re third and they’re fourth and the winner of this game is most likely going to finish third or second.

“If we can beat Apollo this week we will play Blue Lake for second spot in the last game which is exciting,” he said.

“I think we will go well, we have got our team pretty much back together for the first time since the start of the season, we have been so undermanned but the bye has happened at a good time for us and I’m hoping now that everyone is back on it’s just a matter of clicking and getting those combinations and rotations right.

“We know our best is as good as anyone’s but at the end of the day the proof will be in the pudding over the next month.”

Naracoorte United v International

International will head to Naracoorte on Sunday to play Naracoorte United.

Heading into this game Naracoorte has yet to win a match, whereas Inter has only dropped points twice with one draw and one loss this season.

Last time these sides played, Inter came away with an easy 7-1 win.

Inter are coming off a hard fought 1-0 over Blue Lake which was their lowest scoring game this season.

Inter will be looking to take care of business in this game as this is their last game of the home and away season whereas Naracoorte will be looking to get some points before the end of the season.

Senior Women

Gambier Centrals v Apollo

Centrals and Apollo will face off against each other tomorrow night at MGA Park.

Last time they played Apollo won 5-1.

Going into this game Centrals have not been in the best form as they have only picked up one win over the past five weeks.

Apollo on the other hand have been very dominant all season and have only dropped points once in a draw to Blue Lake.

If Centrals can pick up a win tomorrow night then they will have a good shot at finishing third and securing a home final.

Blue Lake v Millicent United

Millicent United will head down to Malseed Park on Saturday to take on Blue Lake.

Last time these sides played it was a close match with Blue Lake coming up with the 1-0 win.

Both sides have been playing very good football this season and are both in solid form going into finals.

In Blue Lake’s last five games they have only dropped points once and that was to Apollo in a draw.

Millicent on the other hand have had only two losses in their last five games which has helped them get a good spot on the ladder ahead of finals.

Millicent have a legitimate chance of finishing in second place if they win this week.

If Millicent wins this week and next week against Inter they could move up to second if Centrals defeats Blue Lake in the last week.

Overall this should be a really exciting game with a lot at stake.

Naracoorte United v International

International will travel to Naracoorte on Sunday to face Naracoorte United.

Both sides have not had the best season as Naracoorte have only got two points whereas Inter have picked up two wins and two draws for the season.

Inter found a bit of success late in the season where they picked up two wins in the last five weeks, with one of those wins coming from Naracoorte.

Neither of these sides have much to play for as they cannot make finals but they will both give it their all as Naracoorte looks to claim their first win of the season.
