JOHN DONEGAN – FOR around 15 years, with the support of the Casterton Community, the Lions Club of Casterton has organised the Poets’ Breakfast on behalf of the Kelpie Festival Committee.
For 2025, this is scheduled for 8.30am on the Saturday morning, 7 June of the Queen’s/King’s Birthday weekend
. In recent years this has been a “Walk-up Event” as interested local community members and visitors have accepted our general invitation to read poetry to an interested audience.
After a limited response to our appeals for readers in 2024, we decided to advertise for 2025 readers in the Casterton News of 25 March.
At the time of writing the response to this advertisement for potential readers has been very limited. We’d love to see more people reading. No experience necessary. Just come and join the fun.
Please contact John Donegan before our 1 May Lions Club Meeting, if you wish to contribute to our Poets’ Breakfast this year.
Debutante Ball PRACTICE sessions for the 23 May Lions Club Debutante Ball have commenced at the Anglican Hall on 4pm on Sundays.
The 11 debutantes and their partners will be presented to the Glenelg Shire Mayor, Councillor Karen Stevens, at a formal presentation at the Casterton Town Hall at 8pm.
The enthusiasm of the debutante group and their trainers at the early practice sessions auger well for another enjoyable evening.
General tickets for the public to view the occasion will be available in early May.
Young Youth of the Year SCHOOL visitations for the preliminary rounds of the Young Youth of the Year Competition begin with Merino Consolidated on 29th April and conclude with Coleraine Primary School on 21 May.
The two best performing students from each of our five local primary schools will participate in the Zone Final at the Coleraine Brigade Brigade on Wednesday, 28 May.
