Fun and games back at Tantanoola

The Tantanoola community is celebrating the return of its playgroup sessions. The playgroup was based within the grounds of the Tantanoola Primary school for many years. However, due to a suspension of classes in 2020 the group was required to relocate to a Department of Education and Child Development site in Millicent.

Playgroup leader Susan Lines said the relocation to Millicent was not supported by the majority of families attending Tantanoola playgroup. “Throughout 2020 the conversation amongst local families was the playground needs to return to Tantanoola,” she said.

“The subsequent closure of the Tantanoola school confirmed the playgroup at Tantanoola funded by DECD would not continue.” Ms Lines said there was consultation and subsequent agreement among the playgroup families to approach and join Playgroup SA, with the Tantanoola Institute hall identified as a possible location.

“Wattle Range Council was approached to gauge their interest in the possibility of playgroup meeting at the hall,” she said. “With support and assistance by the Tantanoola playgroup families of 2020 and Wattle Range Council the Tantanoola Community Playgroup had an official opening recently.”

Ms Lines said the group meets during school terms on Wednesdays from 9.15am-11.15am. “An aim of ours is to be community and we encourage all members of the Tantanoola community to come say hello and see our newest group,” she said.
