Funds secured to re-roof roost

The Robe Football Club has secured a council loan of up to $120,000 to re-roof its licensed clubrooms as it does not have the financial capacity to do so at present.

A club delegation addressed the January monthly meeting of the Robe District Council while the club’s financial report was kept confidential.

The request was deferred to the final item of business and considered on a confidential basis for 10 minutes.

Council decided to use its own cash reserves for the loan with the Robe Football Club fully responsible for covering all associated costs, including interest and principal repayments.

The re-roofing loan attracts an interest rate of 5.42% with a structured repayment schedule over a 10-year period.

The delegation comprised new president Jason Pettit and past vice-president and former Robe Council chief executive Roger Sweetman.

The minutes of the council meeting outlines the following points were made by the delegation.

The Robe Football Club believes the recreation ground is the most important and frequently used facility in the council area, supporting both sports and passive recreation off-season.

The club has 202 members and serves around 200 meals on Thursdays and Saturdays, providing a social venue for the community (e.g. funerals, conferences).

The Robe Football Club maintains the entire leased grounds (excluding the skate park) and will continue if maintenance support is provided.

The club is working to address a leaking roof but faces funding challenges; the only option is a loan, though the bank will not approve the full amount, with significant delays and high interest rates.

Repairs are needed before winter to prevent further damage and make the facility unusable.

The Robe Football Club plans to coordinate with the council on materials and repair processes.

Given redevelopment plans, the club prefers a cost-effective waterproofing solution until redevelopment proceeds.

They also plan to redirect drainage pipes outside the building.

This is the 60th season for Robe in the Mid South Eastern Football League following the disbandment of the Southern Ports Football League in 1965.

Robe will host the MSEFL grand final on September 26.
