Gallery project transforms paper waste into unique ‘forest of fun’

Good progress is being made on the creation of 1000 paper butterflies from outdated maps for the Imaginarium Re-A-Ranged- Flower Garden at the Millicent Gallery.

It is the brainchild of Hatherleigh artist Selena Smith and will open at 6pm on May 30.

As part of the preparations, Ms Smith is holding regular paper-folding workshops at the Millicent Public Library.

She is gathering members of the local community and friends to assist in creating a space from recycled materials and transforming them into a forest of fun.

“The installation is more than flowers: it is bugs and butterflies and toadstools which are all curated and crafted from discarded domestic waste,” she said.

“Together through the workshops, I am turning strangers into community and friends.

“It is in conjunction with the Re-A-Range community weekend event staged by Wattle Range Council.

“Activities and workshops will be held in various locations around the district.”
