The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage.
The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 3.
Mason Redman
Mason Redman and the Bombers had a big win on Thursday night as they took on the Power at Marvel Stadium. Redman had his best game of the season so far, recording 22 disposals, three marks, four tackles and a goal. With the footy in his hands Redman was great, having a 90.9% disposal efficiency while also having five rebound 50s. Up forward Redman did well to insert himself in many scores as he had six score involvements along with a score launch. This week Redman and the Bombers will be able to rest up as they have the bye.
Tom McDonald
It was a solid outing for Tom McDonald despite the Dees recent track record. Against the Suns McDonald had 17 disposals, six marks and a tackle. Defensively McDonald was very good, having two intercept marks, six spoils and three rebound 50s. McDonald was solid at getting involved in scoring, having two score involvements as well as a score launch. McDonald and the Dees will have a tough match up this week as they face the Cats in Geelong.
Lachie Neale
Lachie Neale and the Lions had a great win over the Cats on Saturday night as the Lions moved to 3-0. Neale was solid in the win, having 20 touches, three marks, six tackles and four clearances in the nine point victory. Like always Neale was setting up many goals as he had five score involvements and a score launch. Around the ground Neale was a big threat as all four of his clearances came from stoppages. Neale and the Lions should have another winnable game on Saturday as they face the Tigers at the G.
Jeremy Cameron
It was a rough game for Jeremy Cameron and the Cats on Saturday night. Cameron didn’t have the best of games, finishing with eight disposals, four marks and a goal. Cameron still did well to set his team up with goals as he had a goal assist and four score involvements. It was an overall game that Cameron and the Cats would want to forget about as they will look to bounce back this weekend when they face the Dee tomorrow night.
Brad Close
It was a tough game for Close as the Cats suffered their second straight loss of the season. Close had 10 disposals, three marks, four tackles and a clearance. Up forward Close wasn’t at his best as he only had three score involvements. Through three games Close has been solid in front of goal as he has kicked a goal in every match. Close will need to be at his best tomorrow night when the Cats face the Dees.
Jordan Dawson
Jordan Dawson had a solid game on Sunday in the Crows win over the Roos. Dawson had 19 disposals, three marks, six tackles and six clearances in the big win. Dawson was once again great up forward, having five score involvements along with a score launch and a goal assist. Moving the footy Dawson was great, having three rebound 50s. This week Dawson and the Crows will have a tough challenge as they head to the Gold Coast to face the Suns.
Darcy Fogarty
It was a bit of a down game for Darcy Fogarty despite the side getting the big win. Fogarty still kicked two goals but only had six disposals and three marks. Up forward Fogarty was slightly under his best as he only had four score launches in the game. Despite not having a huge impact in the game Fogarty’s two goals still puts him as one of the top forwards in the game as he sits third in the Coleman medal with nine goals for the season. This week Fogarty will have to be at his best as the Crows take on the Suns.
Mitch Hinge
Mitch Hinge had his best game of the season on Sunday in the Crows third straight win of the season. Hinge had 20 disposals, seven marks, four tackles and 16 kicks. Defensively Hinge was great, having three intercept marks and eight rebound 50s. Up forward Hinge was exceptional, recording six score involvements and three score launches. Hinge will look to continue this form this week as the Crows face the Suns.
Toby Pink
Toby Pink had another solid game for the Roos in their loss to the Crows on Sunday. Pink had career high 13 disposals and 11 kicks along with six marks and a tackle. Pink was solid in defence again as he had two intercept marks as well as four spoils. Pink also moved the footy well as he had six rebound 50s with a disposal efficiency of 84.6%. As Pink continues to improve every week he and the Roos will have a tough match this week when they face the Swans at Marvel on Saturday night.
