The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage.
The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 5.
Jeremy Cameron
Jeremy Cameron had a big game against the Crows on Thursday night as the Cats had a comeback win to kick off gather round. Cameron had 15 disposals, six marks and four goals in the win. Up forward Jezza was at his best as he had a season high two goal assists and nine score involvements. Cameron did a lot of his marking contest damage in the forward line as he had five makes inside 50. The Dart’s shot at goal accuracy was a lot better than last week as he finished with six shots at goal with a kicking rate of 66.7%. Cameron and the Cats will have another tough match up this week as they play the Hawks on Easter Monday.
Brad Close
Brad Close had his best game of the season on Thursday night as he helped the Cats get a win over the Crows. Close had 14 disposals along with two marks and two tackles as well as a season high two goals. His work in the forward line was great as he had two goal assists, six score involvements and three score launches. Close used the footy well on Thursday night as he had a 71.4% disposal efficiency. This week the former Northie and the Cats will have to be at their best as they take on the Hawks.
Jordan Dawson
Jordan Dawson wasn’t at his best on Thursday night as the Crows suffered back to back losses. Dawson had 21 disposals, three marks, six tackles and two clearances in the 19 point loss. The captain struggled in front of goals on Thursday night as he had three behinds on three shots at goals. He however was involved in a few scores for the side with five score involvements. Dawson didn’t use the footy too well in the match with a season low 38.1% disposal efficiency. This weekend the Crows have another tough contest as they host the Giants on Saturday afternoon.
Mitch Hinge
Despite the loss on Thursday night Mitch Hinge had a solid game against the Cats. Hinge had 25 disposals, six marks and two tackles in the loss. Like most weeks Hinge was solid at helping get points on the board for the Crows as he had six score involvements and two score launches. Hinge used the footy well as he recorded four rebound 50s with a disposal efficiency of 76%. After back to back losses for the Crows, this will be a must win for Adelaide as they take on GWS.
Darcy Fogarty
Darcy Fogarty had another solid game on Thursday night despite the loss. Fogarty had 15 disposals, six marks and another four goal match for the season. The Fog was great in front of goal as he had a shot at goal accuracy of 80%. He did a good job at setting up scores for his side as he had nine score involvements. In the marking contest Fogarty was great in the forward line as four of his marks were inside 50 with another two being marked on a lead. He continues to be a top forward in the league this season as he sits second in the Coleman with 16 goals for the season. This Saturday Fogarty will need to continue getting goals on the board as the Crows face the Giants.
Lachie Neale
Lachie Neale had another solid performance on Saturday as the Lions had a massive 39 point comeback over the Doggies at Norwood. Neale had 28 disposals along with seven marks, two tackles and a season and round high 11 clearances. Despite missing two shots at goal the Kid from Kyby still made an impact up forward with six score involvements and two score launches. Neale was great in the contest as he had 14 contested possessions with a solid disposal efficiency of 67.9%. As Neale and the Lions have the best record in the league with five wins and no losses they will look to continue that streak as they face the Pies tonight at the Gabba.
Mason Redman
Mason Redman and the Bombers had a great performance on Saturday as they faced the Dees at Adelaide Oval and picked up their second win of the season. Redman had 22 disposals, four marks, a tackle and a goal in the 39 point win. Red Dog moved the footy well on Saturday night with four rebound 50s and a 86.4% disposal efficiency. Redman helped the side get goals on the board as he had four score involvements and a score launch. This week Redman and the Bombers will head west as they take on the Eagles tomorrow night.
Tom McDonald
Tom McDonald had a solid game on Saturday night in the Dees loss to the Bombers. McDonald had 15 disposals, four marks, two tackles and a clearance in the match. Like most weeks Macca was great in defence as he recorded two intercept marks and had five intercept possessions. He was clean with the footy with a disposal efficiency of 80%. It has been a tough start to the season for McDonald and the Dees as they are still searching for this first win. This week they have a tough contest as they take on the Dockers at the G on Saturday.
