Giant kites returned to Beachport on Sunday and delighted hundreds of locals and holiday makers as they soared in the sunshine above the waters of Rivoli Bay.
Launched from the Surf Beach, the colourful creations were described by Beachport resident Heather Burdon as a real spectacle and a sight not to be missed.
The giant kites have been a popular drawcard in past summers and the latest display ran for three hours from late morning until mid-afternoon.
There was also kite making and decorating for youngsters on the beach.
The activities and display were free events but patrons were urged to support the Beachport Surf Life Saving Club by grabbing a bite at their fundraising sausage sizzle.
The giant kites are part of the Wattle Range Council’s “Full Throttle in Wattle” school holiday program which operates over the four vacations in the calendar year.
The council set aside $5000 in its annual budget for the giant kites.
