Glencoe claims percentage-boosting victory

Glencoe showed its true potential with a 62-point win at Kongorong.

On paper, the two neighbouring clubs looked evenly matched but the Murphies were hell-bent on laying a foundation for 2022.

After holding the upper hand in the first half, Glencoe demolished Kongorong in the third term.

Both teams then added one goal in the last.

None was better for the victors than Dylan Childs and he must be a good chance to win the Mail Medal.

The Hawks welcomed back members of the 1980 and 1981 premiership teams who were marking the passing of 40 years since their consecutive grand final triumphs.

These winning teams had notable sporting identity Peter Ryan as their playing coach.

Ryan achieved further notoriety a few years later when he owned a runner in the Melbourne Cup.

Looking to round 17 on Saturday, Glencoe has the bye while Kongorong faces its toughest challenge of
2021.

It heads to meet undefeated ladder leaders Kalangadoo on their home ground.
