Golfers push through heat

Only 55 turned up at Attamurra for the latest round of South East Veterans Golf, possibly deterred by the forecast of 35, but found the course in excellent condition with some tight pin placements.

The local lad Graham Patterson took out First Division with a great round of 42 points.

From Beachport’s John Howe 39, taking the countback from Robe’s Kev Otten 39.

Big Kev overclubbed – bladed – the par three sixth hole, hitting the flag on top of the stick, then spinning back into the hole for a par.

The Penola panther, Trev Williams, on 39 won Second Division from Millicent’s Rob Thompson on 38.

Thompson had an airy to finish runner-up, Bryon Coe being third on 36.

There were four NTP’s won by Bryon Coe, John Howe, Grant Stephenson and Rob Sims.

The balls for this were given by Des Guerin, a long time member, who has just retired from the veterans.

Russ Lingham and “Shiner” Smith won the Ross Orchard trophy with a scintillating 22, while the ball rundown went to 33 or better.

The next outing is at Port MacDonnell on Monday, February 14.
