Apleasant weekend across the Limestone Coast saw plenty of anglers hitting the water and wetting a line.
There were some really nice fish caught around the place this past week, so let’s get straight into it.
Offshore anglers had a bit of swell and breeze to contend with over the weekend, but prior to the conditions were great for all.
A few boats headed wide to the shelf and I heard of some nice blue eye caught from the deep, along with a few other mixed species.
In a bit closer we’re seeing some more nice shark.
Gummy and school shark have both been caught out there, and they’re really spread out, anywhere from 50m and beyond is worth having a look at.
Reef fish such as nannygai, snapper, blue morwong and flathead have been boated too, with a 50/50 split of fish being taken on jigs and baits.
Off the beach there are still plenty of nice snapper being landed this week, fish to 60cm are not uncommon at all, though the majority of fish anglers are taking home have been 40cm – 50cm models.
There has been a handful of sharks caught in the last week too, gummy, school and bronze whaler sharks are about in reasonable numbers and have been fairly consistent in most areas, so if you do happen to get the odd bite off, there’s a good chance there’s a toothy critter about!
In the boats, the inshore reef and kelp beds have fished really well for snapper again this week.
Some more very nice fish to 70cm are being boated, along with whiting, salmon, sharks and even some cracking crays on the rods.
Green and Danger Points have all been worth a crack, Flinty Point and Orwell Rocks are also fishing well.
Further west we have seen some good fish from Blackfellows Caves, Pelican Point and Carpenter Rocks.
Whiting have been excellent again this week.
That little stir on the weekend has kicked them back into gear and we’re seeing good numbers and sizes once again.
Boaties are doing well in the Port Mac Breakwater, Danger Point, Hutt Bay, Cape Douglas and around Carpenter Rocks, while the land based fishos have been doing well on the Port Mac Jetty, Neve Valley beaches, Blackfellows Caves and Pelican Point.
Garfish have been decent once again, with some really nice fish coming from Cape Douglas and Livingstons Bay by both the waders and the boaties.
There are also a few mixed reports coming from the Petrified Forrest at Port Mac, along with the breakwater itself.
The size has been impressive once again, and we’re seeing some big mullet and tommy ruff mixed through as well.
The Glenelg River has produced some nice fish over the weekend.
Garry MacDonald boated a nice mulloway around the Donovans area on a live mullet, and I did hear whispers of some from down around the bridge also.
The bream have been excellent again, they have been spread out like I have reported previously.
My young bloke Finn and I fished Saturday night and although the fishing was a bit quiet for us, he managed one good bream at 43cm, and a handful of small perch to keep him entertained.
The forecast for the weekend ahead looks like it’ll be pretty decent for most fishos.
The swell is dropping out nicely and we should not see too much wind either.
Here’s hoping it stays that way!
Until next week, safe fishing!
