Good sports help primary school

Kalangadoo Primary School recently received a $1000 Intersport Mount Gambier voucher, courtesy of the Kalangadoo Lions Club and Kalangadoo Hotel.

Kalangadoo Lions Club president Greg Moore presented the voucher to Kalangadoo Primary School teacher Emma Mules, who accepted the donation on behalf of principal Alison Whibley.

The school will spend the money on new hurdles and sports equipment for its upcoming sports day.

Kalangadoo Hotel licensee Sean Docherty said he planned to organise community donations once a month and the hotel hosted raffles with the Lions Club every Friday, where all money raised was donated back to the community.

“I have always been a community-orientated person,” Mr Docherty said.

“I have run pubs for a while and I have always supported the community with raffles to donate to charities or schools or whatever is needed.”

Ms Mules said the school was thrilled to receive the donation.

“The school community are very grateful for the donation from the Lions Club and the support from the Kalangadoo Hotel,” Ms Mules said.

“It’s going to make a significant impact in our school community.”

Ms Mules said it was “wonderful” to see other donations being distributed to the community and it was having a very positive impact.

“We have got this small community where everyone is backing each other and supporting each other in the ways they can,” she said.

“One thousand dollars is huge for our school community, we’re really lucky to receive that.”

Ms Whibley said such donations were greatly appreciated by students.

“We appreciate the fact that it’s a community service that’s helping to support the school through a community business,” she said.

“Thank you and we are very grateful and appreciative of their support, it means a lot in a small school in a community like Kalangadoo that we get support from the community.”
