Good week on greens

The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club had an enjoyable weekend on the greens in round 2 of the 2021-22 Lower South East Bowls Association Pennant
season.

Proceedings got off to a damp start in the mid week competition.

Due to the wet weather only 15 ends could be played before it was called off.

Port MacDonnell Blue was outclassed by Naracoorte RSL by 13 shots.

The Port MacDonnell Red team had a much better time of it winning 34 shots and six points to Millicent Blue’s 20 shots and -2 points.

Michael Glynn, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and Bill Richards won 26-6 to give their side the winning edge, while the other rink was unlucky to lose four shots.

The women’s pennant competition could not have gone any better for the “Bay” with two tight victories in cold conditions.

In Division 1 Port MacDonnnell recorded 49 shots -6 points to overcome Kingston 43shots and two points.

Roma Henderson, Sharon Perryman, Jan Dowdell and Judith Grosvenor fought hard and lost their rink by just three shots.

However, their efforts were compensated by Lyn Vanderley, Jennie Tilley, Carol Schmidt and Heather Richards, who won 26-17.

Another exciting battle took place in Division 2 and Port MacDonnell emerged victorious by three shots.

Suzaan Connell, Nallia Lucas, Cheryl Doddridge and Marilyn Sutton crawled over the line 30-28.

But the rink of Heather Fox, ShirleyTaylor, Lyn Jones and Elaine Pruis was an even closer affair after Port Mac won 25-24.

The top grade in the Saturday Open Pennants competition did not entirely go to plan.

Division I Port MacDonnell played at home and lost 55 shots and 0 points to Mount Gambier RSL Blue 73 shots and 12 points.

Paul Weir, Robert Hutchesson, Wayne Dowdell and Tim Wrightson fought the hardest and only lost by two shots.

The Division 3 Port MacDonnell had a top day at the Seaside winning 100 shots and 12 points to Robe’s 50 shots and 0 points.

Michael Glynn, Bruce Bain, Danny Gaut and Don Forbes won 33-18.

Jim Williams, Victor Perryman, Jennie Tilley and Kel Butler doubled their opponents score, while Chris Negline, John Naismith, Kevin Henderson and Terry Seiler won 33-15.

The Division 4 Port MacDonnell had a successful road trip to Beachport winning a close contest by seven shots.

The win was set up by Nallia lucas, Ben Tilley, Lyn Vanderley and Justin Brown, who won their rink by 14 shots.

It was enough to cover the tight losses from the Suzanne Connell and Graham Lucas rinks.

Tuesday Social Bowls sponsored by Greg Fisher was played in perfect weather conditions, where 21 players played one game of 10 ends of the 2x4x2 and one game of three bowls straight format.

Winners for the day were Paul Weir and Victor Perryman.
