Grant District Council to review waste management

Grant District Council will review its waste management offerings in time for next year’s council budget, with a view to consider expanding bin collection to all of the jurisdiction’s properties.

Councillor Barry Kuhl presented a notice of motion calling for council to undertake a strategic review of waste management at the council’s last elected members meeting. After being carried by council, with Cr Kylie Boston seconding the motion, the motion will see council undertake research, consultation and costing to consider the expansion of the household (red) and recycling (yellow) bin collection service to all council properties.

In addition, council will also research the cost and benefits of rolling-out an additional green and food waste bin collection service at townships, and consider and report back to council opportunities to fast track (before January 2022) council’s current and scheduled bin expansion routes.

The council administration, according to chief executive Darryl Whicker’s comments at the July meeting, was “very supportive” of Cr “Kuhl’s motion.
