Grants now open to support local projects

Sporting clubs and community groups across the Grant District Council are being invited to apply for up to $5000 co-funding through the newly opened Community Grants Scheme for 2025.

Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said the scheme is envisaged to enable community projects and events that enhance wellbeing and increase participation in social and leisure activities.

“This funding will allow local clubs and groups to deliver meaningful projects that help people connect, stay active, and feel supported,” Mayor Boston said.

“Whether you’re planning a community event or infrastructure upgrades, Council can help bring these to life through the Community Grants Scheme which is now open.”

Three grant categories are available to incorporated not-for-profit organisations.

The community groups category has a maximum of $3000, with 75% contribution from council and 25% from the applicant.

Sporting clubs can apply for up to $5000, with the contribution split 50-50, while the community participation category also has a maximum of $500.

Projects considered under the Community Grants Scheme include, but are not limited to safety/security enhancements, amenity upgrades, infrastructure and facility renovations, community events promoting inclusion and connection; and implementation of club programs.

Grant chief executive Officer Darryl Whicker said the scheme contributes to the building of stronger communities within the district.

“Council supports best practice in Community Development by supporting community groups resilience to build on their capacities and strengths to learn, grow and innovate,” Mr Whicker

said.

“We are pleased to provide this new round of community grants which better assists our community groups to develop their organisations and increase social participation. I encourage interested parties to review the Community Grants Scheme guidelines.

“Grant applications will be assessed on a rolling basis. Projects with merit will be awarded as they are received, therefore early applications are vital.”

Hard copy information and application support is also available at council’s principal office, 324 Commercial Street West, Mount Gambier or by calling (08) 8721 0444.

Applications close on April 28.
