Harvest activity ramps up

The 2020/21 harvest is about to get into full swing in Millicent and district.

It is customary for the peak harvesting period to occur in January with some canola now being taken off.

Wheat, barley and broad beans are set to follow suit with positive seasonal conditions throughout the year indicating a bumper crop.

Some of the grain is being held in on-farm storage while some is understood to be headed to the major Millicent silo complex.

The SE Voice has been told that it has been purchased by a local enterprise.

The 20-year-old complex was not used last summer as it had been listed for sale in mid-2019 by grain handler Viterra.

Elsewhere across South Australia, the harvest has been under way for over two months with numerous receive locations setting daily records.
