Headlam strikes victory

Local sponsor DJ Interiors held a Seniors Stroke Event at the Mount Gambier Golf Course in very cool temperatures.

Despite the weather, the course still delivered plenty of run in the dry conditions.

Two divisions were played with Super Seniors aged 70 years plus and Seniors 55 years to 69 years.

Reb Headlam (19) was the overall nett salver winner of the day despite playing little golf for some weeks, with 93 off the stick, (93-19-74).

In the Senior Division Leanne Hunt (11) was gross winner with 90 and Carol Davis (17) second in line with 96 off the stick, while the Nett winner was Rose Hunt (27) with 76.

In the Super Senior Division the gross winner was Faye Mainwaring (13) with a lovely 89 off the stick followed by Jan Shanahan (17) with 95.

Nett winner was Di Norman (23) with 98.

Several competitors played a stableford round in which Jennifer Van Rijthoven, who is currently in great form, easily won the round with 35 points, five above her nearest rival.

Special prizes were awarded to Leanne Hunt 55 to 69 years for nearest the pin second shot on the sixth hole and to Libby Furner 70 plus years nearest the pin second shot.

The non-veterans nearest the pin second shot went to Jess Parsons who also took out the pro shot on the eighth hole.

The afternoon events were capped off nicely with an afternoon tea generously provided by several members.

On Saturday 15 Ladies played a par round in fine golfing conditions which was sponsored by Empak Homes.

Jennifer Van Rijthoven (10) took the honours with a great round and scored -1.

Her even nines of 43 showed five pars for the first nine and three pars and a birdie on the second nine.

On the same score was Carol Smith (25) whose best nine was a 48 on the front nine with two pars and a 53 on the second nine.
